CLELAND WILDLIFE PARK

Created in 1967, Cleland Wildlife Park is home to 130 species of Australian wildlife and is one of the few places in Australia where you can hold a koala. You'll find them very soft and surprisingly heavy. Lots of the wildlife at Cleland Wildlife Park is roaming free, so you can hand-feed the kangaroos, emus and wallabies on a beautiful walk through the park.

Join the popular night time tour for your chance to see Australia's nocturnal wildlife including potoroos and bandicoots. Hear the calls of owls and the Bush Stone-curlew, and witness feeding of the Tasmanian devils. When you're done feeding the animals, it's your turn! Relax in the licensed cafe and enjoy fresh local produce from the surrounding Adelaide Hills.

FAST FACTS!

  • Cleland is the home of the International Koala Centre of Excellence for conservation, research and education
  • When koalas are not sleeping (up to 18 hours a day!) they're chomping away on eucalyptus leaves, they can eat up to 1000 leaves per day
  • Like your own fingertips, every koala has a unique pattern on its nose
  • Wombat pouches face backwards to prevent them from filling with dirt when their mothers dig in their burrows
  • Bilbies do not drink water, rather their food provides them with enough water to sustain them in their desert environment
