COONALPYN

Giant paintings are transforming grain silos and communities across Australia and you won’t find

anything bigger or better than the five stunning, 30-metre tall portraits right here in Coonalpyn. Painted by internationally acclaimed artist Guido van Helten, the portraits depict local school children and symbolise this rural town’s vibrant future. Designed to create different views

from various angles, be sure to walk to different viewing points.

  • The artist used a cherry picker and 200 spray cans to create the artwork Look out for other public artworks in Coonalpyn including the giant mosaic, the underpass art panel, a fence installation of an eagle’s head and material appliqués
  • Coonalpyn plays host to an RV festival called Silo Sights, with visitors treated to local hospitality, tours and experiences of the region
  • This area was originally known as part of the Ninety Mile Desert until around 1949 when the land was developed by the AMP Society
  • Coonalpyn is on the traditional lands of the Ngarrindjeri people
