URBAN DOLPHINS

Are they city slickers? About 30 bottlenose dolphins are seen regularly in the Port River estuary and many more visit each year. They are the largest community of dolphins to live in a major Australian city.

But living together is not always easy. The Port River estuary is polluted and some dolphins have died from toxic overload. Others have been shot for sport or trapped by fishing lines.

Dolphins are amongst the smartest animals on the planet and connect to humans in a special way. We share prehistoric ancestors, a need for company and a love of play.  We also share the Port River. Yet how much do we know about Adelaide’s dolphins and how we affect their world?
